# Invite team members

> Invite people to your organization, choose their organization role and project access, and change it later

Owners and Admins invite people from organization settings. Each person gets an
[organization role](/team/understanding-roles#organization-roles), and organization Members also get a
[project role](/team/understanding-roles#project-roles) in each project you add them to.

## Invite someone

    In the sidebar, under **Organization**, go to **Settings** → **Members** and click **Invite member**.

  <Step title="Enter their email">Type their address in **Email**.</Step>

  <Step title="Pick an organization role">
    Choose **Admin** or **Member** under **Role**. It starts at **Admin**. To make someone an Owner, invite them first
    and then [change their role](#change-someones-organization-role).

  <Step title="Choose project access (Members only)">
    For a Member, the **Project access** section lists every project. Pick a role for each project they should join -
    **Member**, **Maintainer** or **Read-only**. Every project starts at **No access**, and **Set all to** sets the
    projects shown at once. The footer counts how many projects they'll join.

  <Step title="Send it">Click **Send invite**. They get an email with a link to join.</Step>

When they accept, they join the organization with that role, and as a Member they join each chosen project with its
role.

<Note>
  A Member invited with no projects joins the organization but sees no projects until someone adds them to one .Their
  sidebar says *"You don't belong to any projects. Contact your admin to get access."*

<Note>
  An invitation stays tied to the person who sent it. If that person is no longer an Owner or Admin when it's accepted,
  the invitation stops working and has to be sent again.

## Manage pending invitations

In **Settings** → **Members**, invited people show **Invitation sent** or **Invitation expired**. Click **⋯** →
**Actions** on their row to:

* **Resend invite** - send the email again, with the same project access
* **Copy invite link** - share the link yourself
* **Cancel invitation** - withdraw it, including every project it covers

## Change someone's organization role

Owners and Admins can change roles from **Settings** → **Members** → **⋯** → **Actions** → **Change role**. Pick the new
role and click **Update role**.

| Change | What happens |
| - | - |
| Member → Admin or Owner | They get full access to every project. Their project roles and environment roles are cleared. |
| Admin ↔ Owner | Only an Owner can do this. Their project [restrictions](/team/owner-admin-restrictions) are cleared. |
| Owner or Admin → Member | They lose full access. The dialog adds a **Project access** section listing every project they're in, each marked **Required** - pick a role for each, then click **Update role**. Their environment roles are cleared. |

Only an Owner can make someone an Owner or change an Owner's role. The organization always keeps at least one Owner, so
the last Owner can't be changed to Admin or Member.
